Want to Seal Your Concrete Driveway? Follow These Steps

Are you looking to improve the longevity of your home's concrete driveway? If so, sealing the surface is an inexpensive way that can reduce cracking and flaking, as well as protect it from staining. Here is how you can seal your concrete driveway on your own.

Pick a Nice Day

You'll need to find a day to seal your driveway when the weather's nice with no rain on the forecast. This is because the sealant can wash away if it were to rain before the sealant completely dries. Always look ahead, especially if you need a couple days to clean and seal the concrete.

Remove All Debris

The first step is removing all of the debris that is on the surface of the driveway. You can do this by using a leaf blower to get the large debris off the surface, but you'll also want to use a push broom to sweep away the debris that is stuck to the surface. If the surface is filthy, it may even require getting out a power washer to get the surface as clean as possible. Just make sure to give yourself time for the surface to dry before you apply the sealant

Protect the Surroundings

There are likely things in the immediate surroundings that you do not want to be damaged when you apply the concrete sealant. You should protect these surroundings when possible. For example, if the driveway goes right up to your home's siding or your garage door, you can protect those items by securing wood or cardboard to the surface. It will mainly act as a way to protect the material from overspray when applying the sealant. The sealant should be safe to use around grass and plants, so there is no need to cover those things.

Apply Sealant

A concrete sealant can be applied using a simple pump sprayer. The key to putting the sealant on your concrete is to apply it evenly. It is a good idea to start at the top part of your driveway and work your way down the driveway so that you do not walk across the surface after applying the sealant. You'll need to avoid walking or driving on the surface for about half a day so that the concrete is sealed.

And construction work comes in so many different forms. We'll talk a lot about them on this blog, but for now, just consider these options. There's road construction, landscape construction, home construction, and commercial building construction — and those are just a few popular examples!
